latest

Been reading Charming Billy, about Irish on Long Island NY. Not really into it yet on page 68, but I'm going to give it a shot this weekend.

I googled irish indie rock, and have been listening to The Villagers.

54

On average, the best time to get a ticket is 54 days before a trip, although as always averages don't give you specific information to specific circumstances.

what to see when in Ireland.

I was thinking a Celtic fiddling festival would be something I would really enjoy in Ireland. Once I heard some Celtic fiddling on WKCR, the Columbia station, and I got a CD. They have some Irish music shows on WKCR. Here is a group called Celtic Fiddle Festival:

I also did some research into any travel writing in Ireland and found this: McCarthy's Bar: A Journey of Discovery In Ireland. Not sure if I want to support the cliche of alcoholism.

when to go?

The cheapest flight I could get to Ireland for a one week trip is March 25th for $565 round trip on American. I think that's if I bought the ticket today, February 22nd 2014.

I wonder when the best time to go to Ireland is. I don't really need sunny weather. I guess the best time for me would be the cheapest time, if I could get off from work.

new blog genisis

I have a bit of competitiveness with my partner about blogging. I'm blogger and she's wordpress.

"I got 3 new followers last night."
"That's it, I'm going to create a new blog."
"What's it going to be called?"
"My hopeful trip to Ireland"
"Your trip?"
"I mean our trip?"
"Hummm."

I've traveled around Great Britain, but I never made it to Ireland. When I did a year abroad and when I worked for a year overseas, I didn't pick up much of an accent. But then I took a class on Irish literature, and I'd come home and have an Irish accent. You can tell yourself all kinds of stories in life, and you never really know if they're true. I tell myself the Irish accent comes through because I'm 1/32 Irish. My Great Grandfather was Irish. He knocked up my Great Grandmother who was German, came through Ellis Island. Great Grandpa from Ireland was a rolling stone, and my grandfather didn't grow up with him.

I read somewhere that if you have a grandparent who is Irish, you can get Irish citizenship. So my mother could become a citizen of Ireland. Then I could become Irish.

I've only been to Ireland in books and movies. And that's what I've been doing ever since I decided to go to Ireland. I've been watching Irish Writers In America. I'm going to take yet another run at Ulysses. I've got some DVDS to help me get more background that my pop lent me.

I read in an article that planning a vacation is perhaps more enjoyable than going on the actual vacation. So that is why hopeful is in the title of my blog. I'm in debt and have children, and probably won't save up enough to take my girlfriend to Ireland any time soon. But that doesn't mean I can't plan my holiday in Ireland. And that's why I created this blog.
